Māori Language Week

The theme for this year is ākina te reo – behind you all the way which is about using te reo Māori to support people, to inspire and to cheer on.

Here at St John’s College we will be celebrating Te Reo Māori along with the rest of Aotearoa for Māori Language Week 4-10 Hōngongoi (4-10th July). Each day there will be competitions for both staff and students to engage in the celebrations. Follow the link to the SJC Facebook page to find out the question and word of the day and participate with your whānau. https://www.facebook.com/StJohnsCollegeHamilton/

If you are keen to take it a step further, then here is a link of Te Reo Māori resources you can download and use at home, work or at “play.” http://www.tetaurawhiri.govt.nz/what-we-do/events-and-promotions/maori-language-week/te-wiki-o-te-reo-maori-resources/

There will also be a performance from our SJC Kapa Haka group Te Whānau ō Hato Hoani on Tuesday during our senior assembly.

So with that in mind whanau, enjoy the upcoming week and begin your journey!
