Monetary Policy Challenge 2014

The school has a strong track record at this competition, and the success of this year's team has certainly maintained this as once again St John's College Monetary Policy Challenge Team qualified for the regional final of the competition. 

For the local competition, the team had to submit a 1000-word essay on monetary policy, and whether they would adjust the Official Cash Rate (OCR) for the July 2014 Quarter. The judges' reviews of this written submission were glowing, with the team receiving a high mark and subsequently qualifying for the regional final.

The team at the regional final was required to present their OCR decision to a panel of judges from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. They were then asked questions by the judges pertaining to their presentation. The team performed the best of any St John’s team in this competition and received a Highly Commended, just missing out on the National Finals to the team that eventually won, Taupo-nui-a-Tia College. Other schools that received highly commended were Wellington College, and Saint Kentigern’s college.

The team consisted of Huon Fraser, Noah Lockett-Turton, Logan King, Sarat Obsuwan, and Arin Bevie.
