Maadi Cup

Our Rowing team all performed extremely well with 14 out of the 16 rowers making an A Final.  This is an outstanding effort.  Liam Herder made it through to the final battling the wind to come into the final as one of the top 3 qualifiers.  After a slow start he powered his way through the field to finish a close second.

The U18 Lightweight Four is an event that the College has had some very god crews in over the last three years.  This years crew of Liam Herder. Thomas Dunn, Tyler Nagpo, Ryan King, and coxswain Anthony Meehan again showed the class of St John’s in this event with a very strong silver medal.  The boys trailed Westlake boys then had a strong drive towards the line with 300m to race to take the lead.  They couldn’t hold this push and succumbed to the Westlake challenge.

The U18 Novice eight then raced.  After a powerful display to make the final hopes were high for a top showing.  Unfortunately they could not follow this up and faded to 7th place.  With all the boys still being only 14 the crew will proceed onto Maadi (NZSS Championships) to race the U15 event.

The final event for the day was the U18 lightweight double.  We had two crews entered with both making finals.  Ryan King and Thomas Dunn won an exciting race in the B Final to finish 9th overall.  This left Liam Herder and Tyler Ngapo to do battle n the A Final.  This was Liam’s 3rd race of the day.  The boys battle extremely well to come away with a creditable bronze medal.

All crews now head onto the Maadi regatta.  This is held next week from 18-23 March.  The finals days are Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March.  The results show we will be competitive in a number of boats.  We wish the boys safe and fast racing for their events.
