Athlete Development Programme

Year 9 & 10 Curriculum Programme

Talented Year 8 athletes are invited to apply for the Athlete Development Programme. Backed by robust sports science, ADP is a curriculum option for Years 9 and 10 that prepares and trains young athletes for the physical demands of sport.

Young men experience their maximum growth rates between the ages of 12-16, and youth athletes have a higher risk of injury in that period. Developed in partnership with AUT's SportsPerformance and Research Institute (SPRINZ) our ADP Programme teaches our athletes to train safely and learn the resistance training techniques that will optimise their performance.  The ADP Progamme is supported byWintec's Sports Science Department.

Athlete Development After Hours

All SJC students are welcome at before and after school ADP training sessions in the Weights Room, supervised by our qualified ADP Tutor.

Smart strength adn conditioning training benefits all bodies for lifelong wellbeing, and St John's encourages any student interested in training and learning about fitness and body condition to come along. Sessions last about an hour and include a warm-up and exercises designed to improve strength, speed, power and stability, which reduce injury and improve performance. Many students attend with friends or team mates, enjoying the social side of training together. There is a fee to join the Weights Room per term. See Mr Kandpoi to get a Weights Memebrship Form
