There are three teams at Senior (Year 11 and above):
- 1st XI, who play 50 over games in the Division One Grade of the Waikato Secondary Schools Competition
- 2nd XI who play 40 over games
The Junior sides are:
- Colts who play 40 over games
- Year 10 Premier
- Year 9 Premier
Games are in Terms 1 and 4 (usually starting in Week 2 of that term) and total approximately 8 games per term.
Practices are held regularly at the school nets, bottom field and the University nets in Silverdale Road. The 1st, 2nd and the two Colts teams practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3rd XI and Year 10 Premier on Mondays and Year 9 Premier on Wednesdays.
Each team has a gear bag, although players are encouraged to bring their own. Balls for each game are supplied.
Players are expected to wear a St John’s College playing top (if not supplied by the school or sponsored the Phys Ed top is acceptable), white longs and predominantly white shoes. Some teams have standard caps and players are encouraged to purchase the St John’s College cap.
Parents are encouraged to support the teams on game days and there is an expectation that each team will have at least a manager and coach at games.
There is an active Cricket Committee which oversees the code which meets regularly throughout the season.
This year the Sports Institute has a cricket module for Year 9 and it is envisaged that there will be a Year 10 and a Year 9 group in 2014.
