Faculties

Balloon SlideBalloon SlideSt John's College offers a wide range of subjects to cater for the different needs and interest of students who attend the School. The New Zealand Curriculum forms the over-riding structure for the subjects offered because St John's College initially prepares students for life in the wider community of New Zealand, then the world.

The St John's Curriculum is an interpretation of the New Zealand Curriculum. One adaptation which reflects something of the special Christian character of the School is that the subject of Religious Education is a core subject, at all levels, for all pupils.

Our Curriculum is evolving, a living organism, which is regularly reviewed and modified in this rapidly changing world.

Students work towards qualifications in NCEA. For subjects overseen by Industrial Training Organisations credits contribute towards both NCEA abd ITO certificates.

There is more to education than qualifications however. An Emphasis on problem solving and the skills of thinking creatively is a current goal for all academic subjects, with a view to establishing these as skills for life. St John's encourages students to set themselves personal goals of excellence in all they do: Academic, Cultural, Sporting, Interpersonal relationships, Leadership and Citizenship.
