Application Process

  1. Information pack, including:

2. Application form completed and sent to St John's College with NZ$100 fee.

3. Student interviewed and tested for academic and English language ability. This may take place either in New Zealand or the student's home country.

4. Application processed and, if successful, an offer is made by St John's College.

5. Offer accepted by the student and fees paid to St John's College.

6. Tuition Agreement signed by parents and student.

7. Academic course selected by student.

8. Code of Conduct signed by parents and student.

9. Guardian selected by parents and confirmed by St John's College.

10. Student obtains visa. St John's College provides:

  • Offer of Place letter from the School
  • Receipt for School fees

Note: These are an essential part of the visa application process.

11. Homestay Application received or details of own arrangement provided to School. This will be monitored by the St John's College Dean of International Students.

12. Homestay fees received.

13. Medical Insurance sighted and checked by St John's College.
Note: Insurance must cover travel, medical and fee protection.

Health and Travel Insurance

Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are:

  • A resident or citizen of Australia; or
  • A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
  • The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more.

If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. StJohn's Collegerequires you to have a New Zealand based medical insurance policy that will cover the costs of medical treatment for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. The School will organise this insurance for you before you arrive in New Zealand. StJohn's Collegeuses Unicare Travel and Medical Insurance.

If a parent or recruitment agency wishes to organise their own insurance for a student this must be equal to or better than the Unicare policy and be New Zealand based. A copy of the policy must be supplied to St Peter's School prior to the student's commencement at the school.

We also strongly recommend that you obtain insurance to cover your travel to and from New Zealand. Such cover is included in the Unicare policy.

Code of Practice

St John's College, Hamilton, New Zealand, has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education.
