From the 19th September to the 4th October, 2010, St John’s College will send a group of students to Japan. This is the second such trip for Years 11, 12 and 13 students who have studied, or are currently studying, Japanese at the college. Our two-week itinerary will be jam-packed with cultural delights. We will start our journey in Osaka, where we will visit the castle and Universal Studios Japan before moving on to Hiroshima, Kyoto, Tokyo and Kanra,.
In Tokyo we will be visiting a Japanese school and our group will be placed in homestays for a taste of Japanese family life. We will go from there to visit Kanra, the hometown of Akira Tamura who was the Japanese language assistant in 2007 – 2008. Our students have fond memories of him and are really looking forward to seeing him again. His town is generously providing us with a bus in order to do some sightseeing and we will have the opportunity also, to visit the boys’ high school where Mr Tamura teaches as an English teacher.
Our last day will be spent at Tokyo Disneyland for a bit of fun before returning to New Zealand. The aim of this trip is to provide our students of Japanese with a multi-faceted cultural experience and a chance to use their Japanese language skills in the most authentic way.
