Winter hockey season is in full swingWell, the first round has been played out and once again we were in a promotion relegation match... this time against Fraser High School. Fortunately we won 6-0, proving that while we don't belong in the B grade, we do still have some work to do to ensure we don't remain at the bottom of the A grade!
But that's all good... we love a challenge, right?
Results from the first round are at the Waikato Hockey website here.
Got some footage from Wednesday's 1XI game at St Peters against Cambridge...mainly Rauin doing his thing... which on Wednesday amounted to saving our asses! This will go up on YouTube this weekend sometime....so keep clicking 'refresh' haha.
And yes, 2XI, we will get some footage of you guys as well in the next few weeks so you don't feel left out!

FUNDRAISING
Sheep Poo
We have yet to find a viable shearing shed to dig out manure from but I have been given the name of a shearing contractor in Raglan. I will get hold of him and see if he knows of any sheds nearby that we can raid. ................................................................................................................
2011 SCHOOL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
We are off to Stratford in August for the Woolaston Trophy schools tournament. We will be staying at Belt Road Seaside Holiday Park in New Plymouth. www.beltroad.co.nz More details to follow closer to the time...dates are something like August 21st - August 26th.

2012 OVERSEAS HOCKEY TRIP
After investigating our options, I am recommending that we visit Australia rather than Argentina in 2012 - costs are lower and the options are looking pretty exciting as far as activities and teams we can play. I have spoken to the managing director of Sportslink International - Paul Kelly - and he has indicated he may be on his way to visit Hamilton in July this year, and if that is the case, I will be meeting up with him to have a discussion about a possible trip to Gold Coast.
"What could definitely work is a Brisbane / Gold Coast trip. Spend a few days in Brisbane, play a few games there, then could go down to the Gold Coast and do the same there. Could add in the major sights and attractions (a day at Movie World or Dream World) as well as the beaches, Surfers Paradise area."
He has said we could make it a 10 day trip with 5 games included. He could also organise training sessions with some local coaches or Australian players if interested. Whatever we decide, he can put together an itinerary and costings for us so we know where we are at and what to aim for.
This trip would probably replace our 1st XI competing at a New Zealand schools tournament next year and is a fantastic opportunity to experience hockey in a country whose national mens team is currently number one in the world!
Anyway, there's enough to be thinking about in the meantime...see you all next week and enjoy your weekend...
Aaron
