Homestay Accommodation

We have a large number of homestay providers, who have all been carefully vetted to ensure they will offer a safe and welcoming home experience for our international students. Homestay accommodation offers the best experience of a kiwi lifestyle and students often form close friendships with their host families.

Homestay families provide a bedroom, meals, internet and study space in a comfortable and caring environment. We have visited their homes, interviewed them and police checked them. We have a set of guidelines that our homestay families must follow and we stay in regular contact with both students and homestay families to make sure everything is going well. If for some reason a student is not comfortable in a homestay environment, we can match the student with a different provider.

Students may not live alone or in shared accommodation with other students. They must live with a parent, or an approved 'designated caregiver' or with a St John's College Homestay Provider.

Becoming a Homestay Family

We welcome interest from families wishing to host our international students. Please read through our Homestay Guide so you understand what to expect.

If your family is willing to become a host, please complete and email the Application to Be a Homestay form and accompanying Referee Check. This form will provide the School with details of your family, interests and home. We will contact you to visit your home and meet you. A Police Vet check will be a mandatory step prior to placing any students with you.
