Basketball is an iconic sport at St John's College, delivering on the tremendous legacy left by Mr Mel Young, teacher and coach at the College for 43 years.
We have competed at every National Secondary Schools Championship since that tournament since 1987 (with one exception in 1998). IN 1996 St John's College won the National Title beating Christchurch Boys' High in Timaru. St John's consistently has the highest participation of teams in the Waikato competition and the Senior 'Eagles' have been Regional Champions for the past 3 years.
