Sport at St John's

Sport is an important feature of the St John’s College culture.

We have a proud sporting history -  young men can excel here in winning teams and participate in a wide range of sporting and physical pursuits. There is ample opportunity for students to test their talents, broaden their horizons and form lifelong friendships through sport.

All students are strongly encouraged to participate in sport. A range of sporting codes are offered and our teams compete strongly, regionally and nationally, in both traditional and emerging sporting competitions.

As a Marist school, we insist on high standards of behaviour and sportsmanship from our students. Sport helps young men to develop qualities that will serve them in life – the ability to be gracious in victory and generous in defeat, to train and play hard and to play fair, to strive for excellence and to bounce back from disappointment.

For most sporting codes there are sponsors in place and the College strive to keep costs as low as possible. However, there may be subs payable as well as tournament fees and other relevant costs. The College does have a 'no pay, no play' policy. However, we do understand the financial strain it can put on families. We do encourage families to set up automatic payments to alleviate the financial burden. We also ask clear communication from families to the finance office regarding financial difficulties. This will be treated with extreme confidentiality.

Most sports are managed by a TIC (Teacher in Charge) and enquiries should be directed to them in the first instance please. If you have any further queries please contact our Sports Manager
