Becoming a homestay family is a great way for you and your family to enjoy learning about a new culture whilst sharing your own. Our young international students will benefit immeasurably from a supportive environment where they can relax and get to know you and your family while experiencing life at St John’s College.
Homestay families provide a bedroom, meals, internet and study space in a comfortable and caring environment. We have a set of guidelines that our homestay families must follow and we stay in regular contact with both students and homestay families to make sure everything is going well. If for some reason a student or provider is not comfortable with their homestay environment, we can make changes to the arrangements. Rest assured that this doesn’t happen often and usually homestay accommodation offers the best experience of a kiwi lifestyle and students often form close friendships with their host families.
Homestay families will receive remuneration of $360 per week which is intended to cover the cost of food, power and internet, ensuring that people who want to experience hosting an international student can and aren’t prohibited by cost. Students are needing accommodation for a mixture of short and long-term stays so we can offer different options to fit in with your family.
Zarlene Morgan, St John’s College homestay coordinator, would welcome the opportunity to speak with anyone interested in becoming a host family in 2025.
