OPEN!

The Terraced seating is officially open - News - St John's College

It was quite the do!

This last Saturday, the terraced seating by our number 1 field was officially blessed and opened. Thank you to the many supporters and helpers, donors, sponsors and their families, who celebrated the opening of the terraces with us. It was particularly good to see so many Old Boys returning to St John's for the occasion.

Blessed by Mons. Frank and Matua Josh, and officially opened by Br. Dunleavy, the terraced seating is now ready for use by the entire St John's community.

Even a light rain couldn't dampen the mood, but the cups of soup (delivered to the seats by Mr Bormans!) went down a treat. A huge thank you goes to the hospitality students, Mrs Myburgh, and Mrs Lyons, who had prepared this tasty treat.

We also welcomed special guests Armand Petrin and Eddie Mills, who carried out the game ball. Both had played together in the very first St John's 1st XV in 1961!

Congratulations go to former SJC 1st XV players Bart Karalus (2000), Martin Gaines (2001), Nick Corbin (2002). Simon Kay (2004), Dom Corbin (2005). Aidan Stevenson (2006), Joe Cox (2007), Jacob Honiss (2008), and Mosese Karalus (2009), who were all capped in a brief ceremony at half-time.

And lastly, the Matthew Cooper Boot Trophy, presented at the end of the game, remains firmly with St John's College!

Come and have a look at the many names along the rows of seats next time your at the College. For more photos from the day, head over to the SJC Foundation webpage and login to our photo gallery!

This has been an initiative driven by the St John's College Foundation, and although the terraced seating has now officially been opened and handed over to the College, it's not too late to get 'your seat'.
